Summary description:

The Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy begins with a framing of international humanitarian law, contextualizing it within a larger historical, legal and political narrative. The training then proceeds with the in-depth analysis of the classification of armed conflicts and of the consequences stemming from this classification at the legal and policy level. After that, the program addresses the regulation of hostilities, inherent in which is the balancing of military necessity and humanitarian consideration. Subsequently, the interplay between international humanitarian law and other relevant frameworks, notably human rights law, international criminal law, and domestic law is analysed. Finally, selected additional topics of particular interest to the professional are presented.
