This module introduces the concept of direct participation in hostilities by civilians. The presenter introduces the legal basis for this concept, as well as the operational challenges the concept may pose. The session explains the framework for determining whether a civilian is directly participating in hostilities, and what such a designation means in terms of a loss of protection from being targeted.
