Course participants in one of PHAP's courses

PHAP's first course in Entebbe on IHL, peacekeeping, and protection

on 16-20 September this year, PHAP will organize its first courses in Entebbe, Uganda, as part of its Advanced Professional Training Program on Humanitarian Law and Policy. This will include the Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy on 16-18 September, which is an intensive three-day program that serves as an opportunity for experienced humanitarian practitioners, policymakers, and others operating in or dealing with conflict settings to deepen their understanding of international humanitarian law (IHL) and other legal frameworks applicable in times of war, and to explore related policy and operational challenges.

The Core Training will be followed by a two-day Thematic Workshop on Peacekeeping Forces and Protection of Civilians. This workshop will explore through legal, policy, and operational perspectives the challenges faced by peacekeeping forces that have been given more robust mandates to protect civilians as part of their missions, and analyze the current practical measures adopted by some forces, including UN forces and UN-authorized regional forces such as AMISOM, to address these issues.

Participants are encouraged to register for both courses, as the Workshop is designed to build on the Core Training.
