Ensuring accountability to people in crisis requires changes in how organizations operate. We’ve seen some shifts in recent years towards humanitarian organizations genuinely listening, adapting ways of working, and learning from people affected by crises. Donors can also play a critical role in enabling organizations to be more accountable to people in crisis. Feedback from affected people shows, however, that the efforts and commitments made by the humanitarian community are not always translating into reality.
This session will explore findings from a review of various donor commitments on accountability to affected populations (AAP) and progress made against them. It will also look at the perspectives of people affected by crisis and what they think needs to change. Examples of good AAP practices from different countries will show what can work while considering some of the enablers and barriers that need to be addressed moving forward. What are some of the changes that can be made now to put our accountability commitments to people in crisis into practice?
