Online briefing with OCHA on the private sector in the Nepal earthquake response

Pedro Silva Rocha Lima 4 May 2015

On 30 April, two speakers and more than 130 participants came together for an online event discussing the private sector’s role in the response to the earthquake in Nepal. The event was hosted by PHAP in collaboration with the Private Sector Section of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Daniel Gilman, Humanitarian Affairs Officer in the Regional Partnerships Unit of OCHA, spoke from Bangkok, where he has been part of overseeing the response. He briefed participants on the current situation in Nepal, including the state of the country’s infrastructure, existing relief efforts, and priority needs identified in the Flash Appeal.

Next, Andy Andrea, Head of the Private Sector Section in OCHA, provided an overview of the different ways in which the private sector can contribute to the response and where to seek guidance. Event participants also actively engaged speakers with comments and questions in the live chat.

Is your business interested in contributing to the Nepal response? You can find an overview for how to do so in the Nepal Earthquake Business Guide.
