<p>Jenny McAvoy is currently InterAction&rsquo;s Director of Protection responsible for developing and leading&nbsp;<span style="line-height: 1.6em;">collaborative efforts of InterAction&rsquo;s members and other inter-agency fora to enhance humanitarian&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">protection. Her expertise and current focus encompasses policy and programming which support&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">results-based approaches to protection; strengthening compliance with IHL and human rights law&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">through humanitarian action; humanitarian access, negotiation, and adherence to humanitarian&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">principles; UN integration; and the protection of civilians in armed conflict, including in relation to the&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">roles of UN political and peacekeeping missions.</span></p>

<p>Prior to joining InterAction, Jenny worked with the OCHA Policy Branch Protection and Displacement&nbsp;<span style="line-height: 1.6em;">Section, focusing on analysis of trends in humanitarian access, the Security Council&rsquo;s protection of&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">civilians agenda, protection mandates of peacekeeping operations, and guidance on negotiations with&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">parties to conflict on the protection of civilians and humanitarian access.</span></p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">Jenny previously worked for thirteen years with local, national and international NGOs in field&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">operations primarily in Southeast Asia and in Sudan, including several years were with Oxfam GB, as&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">Humanitarian Coordinator in Indonesia, Southeast Asia focal point for Arms Trade Treaty campaign,&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">and Oxfam&rsquo;s first Humanitarian Protection Advisor. Jenny pioneered Oxfam&rsquo;s work on the protection&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">of civilians in armed conflict, including the development of analytical, planning and training tools to&nbsp;</span><span style="line-height: 1.6em;">enhance humanitarian programming and policy on protection.&nbsp;</span></p>
