This module situates international humanitarian law within the broader field of public international law. The presenter identifies the scope and sources of international law, and discusses how international law generally regulates behavior among states. In addition, the presenter distinguishes IHL from human rights law and refugee law, and examines the role of the UN Charter in regulating the use of force.
