Geneva 2017 Thematic Workshop on Monitoring, Reporting, and Fact-finding in Armed Conflict
|This Workshop follows directly on the Geneva 2017 Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy on 11-13 December. Participants in the Workshop are expected to have completed the Core Training.|
Target audience: This course is designed for experienced protection specialists and policy advisors in humanitarian organizations; monitors, observers, and legal officers; managers of UN and NGO humanitarian operations in relevant contexts; and government officials, including both diplomatic and military personnel. Other interested individuals are also welcome to apply. Participants in the Thematic Workshops are expected to have completed the Core Professional Training in Humanitarian Law and Policy.
The Thematic Workshop on Monitoring, Reporting, and Fact-finding (MRF) in Armed Conflict is designed to enhance the capacity of humanitarian practitioners to conduct or contribute to monitoring, reporting, and fact-finding activities on allegations of violations of international law during armed conflict. Considering the different roles and mandates of humanitarian actors when engaged in this work, it will address the relevant legal frameworks and the interplay between international law norms and related fact work on alleged violations, the various mechanisms involved in MRF and how they interact with one another, as well as the underlying objectives and goals of MRF. The Workshop will also look into the methodological, policy, and operational questions to consider to ensure credible and effective MRF activities.
